1 May 2008 - Charity Bike Ride
More than 100 cycling enthusiasts rolled up at Beechenhurst to raise money for three charities.Three different courses were mapped out varying from a 25-mile route for the hardcore cyclists and a two-mile route for children and beginners.
Between 100 and 200 people turned up to take part at the weekend and were sponsored to raise money for the Forest of Dean Children's Opportunity Centre, the Milestone Holiday Activity Scheme and the Nigel Hunter Nursery.
"It was a great day," said organiser Liesel Townley. "We've got a target of £1,000 to raise, but we won't know for a while yet if we've managed that."
Keen riders set off from 8.30am on Saturday, and the last riders came in around 3.30pm. There was also a bouncy castle on site, face painting and a barbecue.
Organisers are hoping to make the three-pronged charity event an annual occasion.
