The Milestone Early Years and Key Stage 1 Department is a Gloucestershire LEA provision for children on the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum.

All the children are referred through the EY Notification Panel or the SEN Placement Panel. Most of the children will have been assessed by an Educational psychologist in order to access a place and are therefore on EY Action Plus on the Code of Practise.

In the Early Years and Key Stage 1 Department there are children from 2 to 7 years.
Nursery 1 - rising 3 on entry in September
Nursery 2 - rising 4 on entry in September
Reception - rising 5 on entry in September

Each class has a teacher and at least one Learning Support worker depending on the needs of the children.

There are also multi disciplinary staff who work closely with the department including; Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Music Therapist and medical staff including nurses and pediatricitions.

During their time in the Early Years and Key Stage 1, the children are taught within the framework of the Foundation Stage guidelines, adapted to meet their individual needs. They have Individual Education Plans, which are reviewed and up-dated termly. These incorporate advise from relevant staff from the interagency team.

By the end of the reception year the pupils will have been assessed and referred to the LEA panel for statutary assessment, which may lead to a Statement of Need being issued.

If it is relevant, pupils will be integrated into their local mainstream primary school, with support according to their need.

Some pupils with Autistic Spectrum behaviours attend daily Curriculum Enrichment sessions.

The school has various specialized rooms available to reinforce and enhance the children's experiences and learning: -

A multi-sensory room with various moving coloured lights, bubble tubes and fibre optic strands etc.

A soft playroom which includes a small ball pool.

A spa pool.

The children also have access to the hydro therapy pool.

There are also several large play areas with trikes and climbing equipment both indoors and out doors.
