The projects we have undertaken so far include:-
English
Developing differentiated packs to support the teaching of English texts at KS3 and 4.to pupils working below N.C.Level 3
The Senior Department at The Shrubberies School is taking the lead in producing materials, resources, worksheets and methods of delivery to support the teaching of English texts at KS3 in the first instant and then at KS4. They will be putting together a number of each pack for each school in the partnership to use and to add to. We are hoping to have the first pack ready for distribution by the end of the Spring term 2005.
Maths
Work has begun, bringing together colleagues from The Milestone (Sandra Russell) Chosen Hill (Jon Pearson and Pat Reynolds) and Newent (Carol Quirk). The target is to have differentiated resources
For pupils working below N.C. Level 3, ready for use in September 2005.
Science
Partner Schools Chosen hill, The Milestone, Newent, and Oxstalls have worked together to produce differentiated resources and assessments for the year 9 QCA unit on Forces (9L), suitable for use with pupils working at N.C. Levels 2 and 3. Led by Julie Lee and Sarah Thomas from Chosen Hill, who have put together a very impressive resource pack, and with input from Debbie Walker (Oxstalls), Jane Price (Newent) and Julie Baker (The Milestone) with support from Resource Technician Jo Burrowes. The unit will be ready to be trialled this term.
PE
Work on PE for PD pupils, involving colleagues Andy Price (Chosen Hill) and Zsuzsanna Takacs (The Milestone) has just begun.
They are working on a menu of alternative activities, matched to the National Curriculum, which can be used with PD pupils in the mainstream school setting. Target: to evaluate the programme in the Autum term 2005.
Work Related Learning
After a very productive initial meeting between partners, Newent, BES, The Milestone and Scott English (Connexions), led by Pippa Palmer (WRL AST, Newent), colleagues Janine Smith (The Milestone), Amanda Cooke(BES) Melissa Bradshaw (Shrubberies), Liz Ashton (Shrubberies), and Julie Baker (The Milestone) are to review current practice in their schools, and to meet again later this term to formulate a school policy, which will be a working document.
Effective use of Teaching Assistants
Two very useful exploratory meetings have taken place between partners from The Milestone, Oxstalls, Chosen Hill, Newent and BES, and drawing on the support and expertise of Clare Steel (LEA Advisor) and Bernie Hodgkin (Gloucestershire University Course Leader GITEP/M.Ed). Our next meeting will establish a working party to devise a framework for planning and carrying out a short review the role of TAs in supporting the learning and teaching of all pupils. The results of such a review can be used to support school self-evaluation.
Target: to have a framework ready for use in schools in September 2005.
