International Dimensions

International Schools Award.
The school has been working towards 'The International Schools Award' over the last year. In July, Mrs Maddison submitted a portfolio of our work containing an evaluation of our practice and many examples of good practice which has occurred thought the Key Stages.
We are very pleased to inform you that the school has been successful in meeting the Central Bureau criteria and our feedback comments from the assessors acknowledged the high quality of teaching and learning: "A well deserved success - an obvious range of interesting and diverse work is taking place. Good evaluation of activity".
This is a fantastic achievement by staff and pupils at the school. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the tremendous effort and all the creative activities that have taken place. I would like to thank parents for supporting the activity days and sending in resources which helped to make these occasions so successful.
Mrs Maddison is going to the Central Bureau in London on 2nd October to receive the award.

Still on the International theme, we have also been successful in our bid to secure funding to work with schools in Sweden, Germany and Poland on an animated film project. Pupils in Key Stage 4 will have the opportunity to work in groups during the year on creating films linked with British Myths, Legends and Mysteries.
In the Autumn term 2002, we hosted a visit for the teachers from these countries who are creating films on their own Myths, Legends and Mysteries.
In the Spring term 2003, a couple of our teachers visited schools in Poland connected with the animated film project, and 3 more teachers will be visiting partner schools in Sweden during the coming half term (summer 2003).
Our Headteacher, Ms Shea, recently visited Belaruse to advise on developing Special Education. Since then, we have been visited by their Minister for Health and several top doctors - looking towards develpoing their countries provision for pupils with special needs.
