Annual Report

Regulations regarding the Governors Annual Report to Parents changed in 2004. Until then the Governors were required to publish and circulate an Annual Report (for the previous whole school year) and to invite parents to a meeting at which this could be discussed.  This was done every year, although very few (and sometimes no) parents attended the meetings or had any queries about the reports.

After 2004 the Government changed the regulations, so that when Governors circulated the report to all parents, they notified them of the meeting date and asked them to return a reply slip indicating whether they would like to attend. If fewer than 15 responded a formal meeting did not take place, but at Milestone parents were still invited to contact Governors if they wanted to talk about any aspects of the school, or if they'd like to meet informally with any Governors at any time.

Since then we have also issued invitations to attend 'Governors Surgeries' but again with little or no response.

In September 2005 the Annual Report was abolished and Governors were required to produce the School Profile on-line. (Printed copies are also available on request).

The School Profile replaces the Annual Report and has to be completed by Governors. Initially there were many problems with the website (which is run by the Government) and schools were unable to access it or update their reports. We had also understood that previous years' reports would be available on-line but this doesn't seem to be the case.

This year the site seems to be working properly, and the Milestone School Profile for the last whole school year (06/07) is currently accessible to all parents (who have internet access). Notification of this was in the Spring Term Newsletter, Issue 3 (3rd April).

To access the profile please visit

schoolsfinder.direct.gov.uk

and under the name/location type GL2 9EU (our postcode).  Milestone School will appear at the top of the list. Click on the school name to select it, then click on "school profile" to print or read the document.

Parts of the document are pre-populated and can't be edited by us - for example the excerpts from the Ofsted report.

What OFSTED said about The Governors.

"The Governors are ambitious for the school, have a good knowledge of what it does well and of those areas where develoment is necessary. They play a full part in shaping it as it develops. They fulfill their statutory duties."

"Governors carry out their duties well. They have a sound committee structure and use this arrangement to maintain oversight of the working of the school. They are well aware of what the school does well and where there is a need for development. They have put in palce a policy to monitor and improve the performance of the school and they implement this rigorously. They carry out their statutory duties and are fully involved in planning and budget making."

"The Governors . . . . . . . . . . take full account of the financial implications when agreeing the priorities for the school." Back to top
